Why does MAGNA intervene in Haiti?
The health care system in Haiti is unable to provide medical procedures such as treatment of injuries or care of pregnant women. Political instability, conflicts and natural disasters have caused Haiti to become the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale hit the capital city of Port-au-Prince in January 2010. As a result, more than 300,000 people died, 1.5 million people lost their homes.
MAGNA teams spent 5 years treating earthquake and HIV/AIDS victims. The project was completed in 2015 after the center was taken over by a local non-profit institution.
